President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, April 28, 2025, launched the Adwumawura Programme, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering Ghanaian youths to start and grow their own businesses.
The program is designed to provide comprehensive support to young entrepreneurs, including funding, mentorship, technological assistance, and market access.
Speaking at the launch of the program in Kumasi, President Mahama said, “We want to support young entrepreneurs who have good business ideas but lack the necessary funding and skills to succeed.”
He explained that the program will focus on businesses that can grow quickly, last long, and create jobs for young people.
The Adwumawura Programme will provide beneficiaries with experienced young entrepreneurs to guide them, technological support, and equipment to improve productivity.
They will also receive assistance in accessing local and international markets and 24/7 business advisory services.
According to President Mahama, “Successful applicants will be assigned experienced young entrepreneurs to guide them in growing their businesses.”
One of the key features of the program is its inclusivity. The program is open to all Ghanaians, regardless of their educational background. University graduates, technical school alumni, SHS leavers, and even those with little formal education can all benefit.
At least 60% of the beneficiaries will be women, persons living with disabilities, unemployed and underemployed youth, school dropouts, youth from rural areas, conflict-affected regions, and individuals formerly engaged in illegal mining activities.
President Mahama assured applicants that the selection process will be fair and transparent, with a neutral body assessing and selecting businesses based on their potential.
“Applications for the program will be made online, and a neutral body will assess and select businesses based on their potential to grow and create jobs,” he said.
The President also emphasized that the program is fully funded and supported in the 2025 national budget.
“The Adwumawura Programme represents a major step towards reducing youth unemployment and helping Ghana’s young people build a prosperous future,” he added.
President Mahama urged Ghanaians to take advantage of the program and encouraged young people to apply.
He assured those who may not be selected in the first round that they will have future opportunities and will receive advice on how to improve or revise their business ideas.
