Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah has expressed his willingness to represent Ghana at the international level, potentially ending his uncertain future with the English senior team.
Born to Ghanaian parents in Lewisham, the 25-year-old has long been a target for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), which has been eager to secure his services for the Black Stars.
Nketiah’s international journey has taken a dramatic turn. After rising through England’s youth ranks and earning a senior call-up in 2023, he failed to make the match-day squad for Scotland and Ukraine fixtures and hasn’t been considered for the England team since. Now, it seems his senior international prospects with England have faded.
In a recent interview on The Beautiful Game podcast, Nketiah revealed a shift in perspective regarding his international future.
“When I was younger, representing England was an option after progressing through the youth system,” he said.
“But if Ghana invites me, then I’ll be there.” This statement marks a significant turning point, and Ghanaian fans are hopeful that Nketiah will soon don the Black Stars jersey.
A potential switch to Ghana could provide a much-needed boost for the team, especially as they seek reliable goal scorers ahead of upcoming fixtures.
Although Nketiah has struggled for form at Crystal Palace this season, registering just one goal and one assist in 25 appearances, his talent and potential are undeniable.
If Ghana officially pursues his eligibility, it could prove pivotal for both his career and the team’s attacking strength.
