A 3-day orientation programme for the 9th Parliament, currently underway at the Volta Serene Hotel, has been boycotted by the Minority, citing high costs.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin revealed that the Minority side notified him of their decision on the night of February 28.
“Their reason is that the cost component is too much, and they don’t want to be part of that,” he said.
Bagbin expressed disappointment over their decision, stating that the programme’s importance cannot be overstated.
“There is a good reason why we choose venues for this… we go round, discuss with the various hospitalities, look at the cost components, their facilities, their suitability,” he explained.
The Speaker emphasized that the choice of venue was not taken lightly, and that the Minority’s concerns were unfounded.
Despite the boycott, the programme commenced as scheduled and will conclude on Monday, March 3, 2025.
