Ghana’s youth have been challenged to take the reins and shape the country’s future. President John Dramani Mahama issued this call to action during Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebrations.
As the nation marked its independence, President Mahama emphasized the crucial role young people play in determining Ghana’s destiny.
“Ghana’s destiny is in your hands. You are not just the leaders of tomorrow—you must step up today. The choices we make now will determine the future of this country,” he urged.
The President’s message was clear: Ghana’s economic independence is just as important as its political freedom.
He encouraged young people to seize opportunities provided by government initiatives, such as the AgriNext Programme, which aims to empower 30,000 young Ghanaians with the skills and resources needed to succeed in agribusiness.
President Mahama also stressed the importance of entrepreneurship and industrialization in reducing Ghana’s reliance on imports.
“Each generation has a responsibility to leave the country better than they found it. We cannot keep missing opportunities while expecting a different result,” he said.
The President’s words served as a rallying cry for Ghana’s youth to take action and build a brighter future for themselves and their country.
“We cannot afford to disappoint future generations. It is time for action, not rhetoric. Let us build an economy that works for all, not just a few,” he added.
As Ghana celebrates its independence, President Mahama’s message is a reminder that the country’s future is in the hands of its young people. Will they rise to the challenge and build a brighter future for Ghana? Only time will tell.
