The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced plans to swiftly and regularly reimburse vetted claims to all NHIS-credentialed healthcare providers following the recent uncapping of the National Health Insurance Fund (NIF).
In a statement issued on March 25, 2025, the NHIA attributed this development to the fulfillment of a campaign promise by President John Dramani Mahama, as announced by Finance Minister Hon. Ato Forson. The move is expected to enhance smooth service delivery across NHIS-accredited facilities.
To ensure accountability and compliance, the NHIA reminded healthcare providers to eliminate illegal charges (co-payments) and adhere strictly to NHIA policies. Providers were also urged to ensure accurate claims submissions based on actual patient attendance and to deliver quality healthcare in line with NHIS standards.
The NHIA further assured that it would publish details of claims paid on its website and intensify monitoring of healthcare facilities. Any provider found violating NHIA regulations, including imposing unauthorized charges on patients, will face sanctions.
Chief Executive Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe emphasized the NHIA’s commitment to a transparent and efficient healthcare system, calling for full cooperation from all service providers.
