National Security operatives have busted a suspected cable theft ring, arresting 13 individuals, including 12 Chinese nationals and a Ghanaian, in connection with the disappearance of electricity transmission cables from the Temo Port.
The suspects, linked to two aluminum smelting companies in Shai Hills, were caught in a sting operation on Thursday.
Investigators tracked the stolen cables to an aluminum smelter near the Shai Hills Game Reserve, where they were being melted into aluminum bars for export.
A manhunt is underway for another Chinese national believed to be involved in the theft ring.
The arrests come amid concerns over widespread cable theft and the resulting disruptions to electricity transmission in the country.
