A driver’s mate has reportedly been shot dead in a highway robbery attack in Offinso South, Ashanti Region, on Wednesday, 23 April 2025.
The incident, according to reports, occurred along the Ayinasusu-Salam road when two men posing as passengers attempted to board a commercial minibus. As they engaged the driver and conductor, a third armed accomplice emerged from nearby bushes and opened fire, fatally shooting the conductor.
The Assembly Member for Ayinasusu, Mr. Ibrahim Yogo, confirmed the incident in an interview with the media.
According to him, the assailants pointed a gun at the driver and demanded a sack he had reportedly received in Wenchi. After seizing the sack, the robbers fired several warning shots to intimidate residents before fleeing the scene.
“I alerted the police when we heard the gunshots. They rushed to the scene, but the armed robbers had fled by the time they arrived. This is the first time we’ve experienced such an incident,” Mr. Yogo said.
The attack has sparked fear among commuters and renewed calls for increased security patrols on highways in the region. Meanwhile, police say they have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
