President John Dramani Mahama has charged his ministerial appointees to prioritize performance over presence, warning that excuses will not be tolerated.
Speaking at the launch of a four-day Executive Leadership Programme in Accra, Mahama emphasized the importance of delivering tangible results.
“You were not appointed to occupy space. You were appointed to solve problems,” he stressed. “The Ghanaian people expect us to deliver. And we must – not with excuses, but with results.”
The programme, organized in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aims to shape a collective mindset among the appointees.
President John Dramani Mahama described it as a transformative initiative that goes beyond conventional orientation.
“We’re not here simply to orient ministers. We’re here to shape a collective mindset,” he said, urging the appointees to discard outdated governance models and adopt a renewed commitment to service.
“The business-as-usual approach will not work. Indeed, it is dead and we must bury it once and for all,” Mahama declared.
He also appealed to the conscience of his ministers, highlighting the rising expectations among Ghanaians.
“Our young people are tired of waiting interminably. Our farmers, our workers, our entrepreneurs… want to live in dignity and prosperity,” he said.
Mahama warned that accountability would be strictly enforced under his leadership, cautioning that ministers who fall short would face consequences. “Please remember, when any of us fall short, I will not hesitate to act,” he concluded.
