Malik Basintale, Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has announced that he will not renew the current contract with Zoomlion Ghana Limited due to concerns over low wages paid to workers.
The contract, which has been in place for over seven years, has been criticized by Mr. Basintale for its unfavorable terms.
In a Facebook post on April 25, 2025, Mr. Basintale expressed his deep concern over the low wages, stating, “All my life, I have fought for integrity and for the better placement of the youth and people of Ghana. If my own family member was being paid GH₵250, I would not be happy. So, how can I be okay with any Ghanaian youth receiving such low pay?”
According to Mr. Basintale, the previous government continuously renewed the contract without making changes that would benefit the workers.
However, under the new leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, he believes change has come, and this change should be reflected in how Ghana’s youth are treated.
In a solemn pledge, Mr. Basintale stated, “Standing by my late father’s grave, I promise on my honor that I shall not renew the contract in its current state or form. It is not fair, and I will stop it.”
Below is his full Facebook post.
All my life, I have fought for integrity and for the better placement of the Youth and people of Ghana.
For 7years, 9 months, the NPP renewed the Zoomlion contract in its current state paying the Ghanaian Youth/worker Ghc250.
H.E John Dramani Mahama came to review, reset and bring Ghana back on track.
This includes ensuring that every worker is paid satisfactorily for the work done.
I promise on my honor as i stand by the grave of my late DAD, NOT to RENEW the contract in its CURRENT STATE or FORM.
It is EVIL for the Previous government to have committed to this and I SHALL STOP IT.
My brothers and sisters, On December 7th, 2024, Change came and Change must Happen.
If my mother/Brother/Sister were a Zoomlion worker, I won’t be happy with either of them taking Ghc250 as Salary and as such I can’t be happy with you, your mother, father, brother or sister taking same.
I Shall be live tonight at 8pm here on Facebook to take reviews, comments and the way Forward.
May God bless us all.
