A bitter rift has emerged within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asuogyaman constituency, with the women’s organizer, Madam Juliana Akusika Nkegbe, launching a scathing attack on the party’s parliamentary candidate, Pius Enam Hadzide.
According to a Starr FM report, Nkegbe accuses Hadzide of being responsible for the party’s poor performance in the recent parliamentary elections, which saw the incumbent NDC Member of Parliament, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, retain his seat.
The Woman Organizer alleged that Hadzide’s actions during the party’s primaries compromised the integrity of the electoral process and undermined party unity.
She claims that Hadzide smuggled individuals from neighboring constituencies into the party’s register, with the assistance of the North Tongu women’s organizer.
This move, Nkegbe alleged, created resentment among local executives and weakened the party’s cohesion ahead of the elections.
The Starr FM report further quotes Nkegbe as saying that Hadzide ignored the majority of constituency executives, leading to a divided front that ultimately contributed to the party’s defeat.
“He went into the elections with a divided front, ignoring the majority of constituency executives,” she said. “This approach alienated key stakeholders and contributed significantly to our defeat.”
The allegations have sparked calls for investigations within the party, with many questioning the transparency and fairness of the processes leading up to the elections.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asuogyaman, Mavis Opokua Akunnor, has also leveled accusations against the constituency secretary, Okomfo Addo, alleging embezzlement of campaign funds, according to the Starr FM report.
Akunnor claims that Addo misappropriated GH₵450,000 allocated for campaign activities, delaying the disbursement of funds to voters while demanding additional amounts.
“You were given GH₵4.5 billion (old cedis) at 8 a.m., but you held onto it for hours at Green Hotel, insisting the balance be paid before sharing it,” she stated.
The DCE also accused Addo of withdrawing funds from the constituency account and misapplying them, as well as squandering money allocated for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign.
“On election day, at a critical time, you were spotted drinking at a bar near Goil instead of mobilizing for the party,” she charged.
The infighting within the Asuogyaman constituency has raised concerns about the party’s ability to reconcile and rebuild trust.
Party insiders believe that swift interventions from the regional and national leadership are necessary to restore unity and prevent further divisions.
The NPP’s regional and national leadership have yet to comment on the allegations, but the developments have raised questions about the party’s internal dynamics and its ability to present a united front ahead of future elections.
