President John Dramani Mahama has acknowledged the daunting task of selecting only 60 ministers from thousands of hopeful candidates who have submitted their CVs.
Speaking at the Presidential Dinner in Accra, Mahama emphasized the importance of building a capable team to deliver on his promises to Ghanaians.
“I have hit the ground running,” he said, highlighting his proactive efforts to engage with key stakeholders.
Mahama expressed concern about the high expectations for a leaner government, saying “You wouldn’t want to be in my shoes when you’ve promised to appoint only 60 ministers, yet thousands of people are sending in their CVs. Then maybe some people will be disappointed.”
Despite this challenge, he reassured the public that contributing to the success of his administration goes beyond ministerial appointments.
“The success of this administration will secure us another term, perhaps under a different leader. But we must get this right so that Ghanaians can continue to have confidence in us,” he said.
Mahama also emphasized the importance of learning from the mistakes of the previous administration to ensure a more effective and trusted government.
“Ghanaians punished the NPP for arrogance, for incompetence, and just for not listening to what their cries and challenges were. There’s no use fighting for political power if we are coming to repeat the same mistakes that the NPP did and so that’s why I’m a bit concerned,” he said.
