Samuel Nartey George, Minister-Designate for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, has unveiled an ambitious plan to position Ghana as the leading hub for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Africa by 2028.
During his parliamentary vetting on January 30, George outlined his vision for Ghana’s AI ecosystem, emphasizing collaboration between government, private sector, and global tech giants.
He drew parallels between AI’s current potential and the early days of cryptocurrency, saying “AI in 2025 is like Bitcoin in 2013.”
George highlighted President John Dramani Mahama’s AI policy, which aims to build upon the previous government’s foundation.
His strategy involves reviewing and refining the existing AI strategy to ensure it remains relevant and adaptable to the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
To achieve this goal, George plans to establish innovation hubs and integrate AI with big data. “We will execute our innovation hubs… and introduce AI on top of big data… making Ghana the hub for AI, machine learning, cybersecurity, data analytics, and data processing in Africa,” he stated.
