Efutu Member of Parliament Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on youths to refrain from violence ahead of the upcoming elections.
He said supporters of political parties should prioritise issue-based campaigns that highlight the achievements of their respective parties rather than resorting to confrontation and unrest.
Speaking at the annual teachers awards ceremony in his constituency, the parliamentary majority leader stressed that those caught engaging in violent acts would face full enforcement of the law.
He warned that no politician would intervene to secure the release of perpetrators, stressing that peaceful and lawful actions should be taken during the election period.
“A reminder to those of you who are foot soldiers, who are busy with the politics in our communities. We the political class in parliament are friends to each other and one another. We do not fight. We engage each other.
“So if you are here and you are going to pull a knife because somebody disagrees with you, I am sorry when things go bad, you may not find that politician who is a beneficiary of your conduct following you.
“The political party may even disown you, so let’s be careful.”
