Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced plans to overhaul Ghana’s diplomatic passport system to prevent abuse and boost the country’s international reputation.
Speaking on The KeyPoints, Ablakwa expressed concerns about the current issuance process. “There has been abuse. Diplomatic passports should not just be available to anyone. We need to streamline the process to protect our national security and international image,” he stated.
Ablakwa referenced existing laws, including NLC Decree 155, which outlines the categories of people eligible for diplomatic passports. He pledged to enforce strict compliance.
“The way we are treated at embassies and airports depends on the credibility of our passports. We must restore their respect,” he emphasized.
Ablakwa assured Ghanaians that a review would be conducted to ensure only those who truly qualify receive diplomatic passports.
