Vitus Azeem, a prominent anti-corruption campaigner, has unleashed a blistering critique of Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
Azeem contends that Ofori-Atta’s policies precipitated widespread economic hardship, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi Fm, Azeem lambasted Ofori-Atta’s tenure, stating, “This former finance minister did a lot of harm not only to Ghana as a nation but also to individuals. The haircuts and the banking sector cleanups actually negatively affected people.”
He emphasized the far-reaching consequences of these policies, highlighting the suffering of pensioners and individuals whose finances were severely impacted.
“People have lost their lives, pensioners have gotten their money locked up and cannot use it for anything, and when you hear that these monies were wrongly taken, it is very painful,” Azeem noted.
He reiterated the distress faced by pensioners, saying, “Pensioners have gotten their money locked up, they cannot use it for anything.”
Azeem also voiced support for the ongoing investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, while criticizing the delay in taking action.
“For me, I think the Special Prosecutor has moved in the right direction because he’s taken too long, although I will say that he delayed a bit by allowing him to leave the country,” Azeem remarked.
