Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi
Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Chairman of the Public Procurement Authority Board, has been released from detention by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).
This development comes after he was detained in connection with an investigation into financial matters during his tenure as the Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF).
According to his legal counsel, Ken Kuranchie, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi was taken into custody on Sunday morning after a group of men in three pickups arrived at his home and informed him that he was needed at the NIB.
Kuranchie stated that Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi voluntarily followed them to the NIB headquarters and was subsequently taken to the NIB offices in Kawukudi, Accra.
The investigation pertains to financial matters during Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s time as the board chairman at GIIF.
The investigation involves certain approvals made at that time. Kuranchie confirmed that Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi’s release was facilitated after his legal team engaged with the NIB authorities.
