As President John Dramani Mahama prepares to deliver his State of the Nation Address today, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has highlighted several key issues that require urgent attention.
Speaking on Citi Tv, TUC Chairman Bernard Owusu emphasized the need for clarity on the government’s “resetting agenda,” urging the president to provide specific details and actionable measures.
“We need to know what the government means by resetting Ghana and what concrete steps it plans to take,” Owusu stated.
The TUC is also calling for policies to tackle the rising cost of living and high unemployment rates, which are affecting millions of Ghanaians. The union expects the government to outline a well-defined plan to address these pressing challenges.
Furthermore, the TUC hopes to hear the government’s strategy for fostering national unity and reducing extreme partisanship. Owusu emphasized the need for a new era of unity and consensus, moving away from the current divisive politics.
On the issue of wages, the TUC is urging the government to address wage disparities and improve overall pay conditions for workers. Owusu called for a firm commitment to adopting a living wage to replace the current minimum wage and addressing pay inequalities.
The TUC is optimistic that the president’s address will provide clear, actionable solutions to these pressing concerns. As Ghanaians await the address, the union remains hopeful that the government will prioritize the needs of workers and citizens.
