President John Dramani Mahama has announced a 20% allowance for teachers serving in rural areas to encourage them to accept and remain at their posts in underserved communities.
The initiative, announced during the President’s State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 27, 2025, aims to motivate teachers and improve education in rural areas.
“To motivate teachers and improve education in rural areas, the government will implement a 20% allowance for teachers who accept postings to deprived communities,” President Mahama said.
District assemblies will be responsible for monitoring the scheme to ensure teachers remain at their designated posts.
Additionally, the government plans to construct teacher accommodation units in rural areas under the Teacher Dabre Initiative.
“No new school will be built without teachers’ accommodation,” President Mahama emphasized, highlighting the importance of teacher welfare in improving education across the country.
